Aims
The aim of this guide for doctors is to describe the best form of management and the care pathway for a patient admitted to the ALD [Long-term condition] scheme under ALD 14: severe chronic respiratory failure.
The guide deals only with the management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). There is a separate guide for patients with asthma. No relevant guidelines could be used as a basis for a guide on patients with restrictive respiratory failure.
