Unfavourable opinion for reimbursement in local anaesthesia of the oral mucosa.
Role in the care pathway?
Dental care procedures may be associated with local infiltration anaesthesia. Pre-anaesthesia (or surface anaesthesia) using a topical local anaesthetic may be envisaged in children and adults who are anxious or phobic about dental procedures.
Various topical local anaesthetics exist, including amides (lidocaine, prilocaine) or esters (benzocaine) in different forms: gel, cream or solution for oral application.
In immunocompromised patients or those predisposed to a risk of infections, preoperative mouth washes with chlorhexidine are recommended for any invasive procedures, such as tooth extraction, and for all dental care procedures.
The benefit of adding an antiseptic to a local anaesthetic is not currently mentioned by learned societies.
Role of the medicinal product in the care pathway
XOGEL ADULTS and CHILDREN (lidocaine/cetrimide) has no role in treatment for local anaesthesia of the oral mucosa.
